Independence Township’s Parks, Recreation & Seniors (ITPRS) department serves as a recreational hub for the Township and surrounding communities. ITPRS has been actively working to expand and improve recreation opportunities for their constituents, seeking to provide additional active-use facilities while continuing to improve their existing properties. The CAPRA accredited department worked closely with Carlisle/Wortman to identify strengths and weaknesses of the community’s recreation system and develop. The final plan will guide development over the next five years and provide greater opportunities for grant acquisition.

Some key recommendations from the plan include:

• Develop pathways that connect Township parks to community facilities and schools;

• Construct a community activity building at Clintonwood Park; and

• Improve recreation opportunities in the parks with additional athletic fields, game courts, boat access, and other activities.
